Haven't posted in a while but visit pretty often.  Anywho... I stumbled on this at the Popular Mechanics website.  Decided I had to share it.  The first page has a very cool shed that a guy in PA built.  It's 10x14.  This is the only pic of it but it's pretty neat.  There's a little write up of it that's pretty descriptive.  It's built from 160 landscaping ties 8"x3"x5" in size.

Aren't those landscape timbers pressure treated?

Really nice looking, though.

Sombody on another list haunted building sites and begged 2x4 and 2x6 scraps which he used (set flat) in a somewhat similar way to build a garage and/or shed nailing them together, possibly with an occasional long landscape screw or bored hole with rebar.

Not as nice looking as that, but probably safer to live in.  I might see if I can find the web site if anyone is interested--couldn't just now.  It would be pretty easy to do without help, I'd think.

Some are.  That's just a shed though.  He doesn't live in it.  Out of curiosity I looked up thoe types of ties and Home Depot (easiest place to find them) had the ACQ pressure treatment (I think it was called).  Supposed to better I think and safer.  Not sure.

ACQ is a pretty safe treatment process. It uses the same chemical that is used in feminine hygiene products. I figure if it is safe enough for the inside of a woman it should be safe enough for the outside of a log!  :D

Oh my, John! [smiley=smiley.gif]

The (new) ACQ treatment IS supposed to be safer.
The older style PT had that greenish cast to it, and contained arsenic.  I think you would have to inhale a lot of it to get sick, but why take chances, eh?  Maybe an ...
old lace hanky dust mask? [smiley=evil.gif]
Sorry!

That cabin does look neat, but those landscape timbers would be a bit pricey to buy.  Very nice if'n you could "scrounge" 'em, though.

I know nothing, Nothing.

I'm staying out of trouble on this one, John.

I posted about ACQ lumber here:

It sure eats metal , I've seen it,  lots of corrosion, quickly.

 Time will tell.

 John yous bad ::) :-/ ;D
When in doubt , build it stout with something you know about .

Billy Bob

Fer sure, PEG.  Gotta wonder a bit about something that needs a whole new range of fasteners.
One kind of PT poisons you, and the replacement corrodes your innards, maybe?
Another thing to learn about, anyway, like being careful about which nails to use with which flashing, or don't use a cast iron standoff for copper pipe.
I gotta say, at least the brownish color looks more natural.

Smart man, Glenn!
