So this morning I was making my way to the door after having just got up when I tripped over a towel I had carelessly left in the middle of my floor. I started to fumble and almost caught myself, only to lose my balance in the end and fall backwards into the wall behind me. There is a nice-sized dent in the wall where my butt and lower back hit and I was hoping y'all could give me some pointers on how to fix it.

Thanks everyone!!

Cut out a square until you reach the middle of the studs on both sides of the crack.
Cut a piece to fit.
Tape/plaster.
paint.

Thanks! I figured it would be more to it than that. Most appreciated.  [cool]

I forgot to say "screw the drywall to the studs"

Probably not necessary, but if it were me, I would put a piece
of 2x4 across where the horizontal seem was so I could screw it
down. But then I always over engineer things.

A piece of 1x is all that is needed to be able to screw the drywall edges down.
Just because something has been done and has not failed, doesn't mean it is good design.
