Palm Nailers

I have never used a palm nailer and was wandering how many seconds it might take to drive a 6 inch pole barn nail into a cedar post. And how big of compressor I would need. I have got maybe (2) 50 Lb. Boxes of 6 inch nails to drive. As much as I have looked I guess they dont make a regular nail gun for 6 inch pole barn nails? Thanks for any help. Bud

I guess maybe I should have ask, would I be better off to use a 2 Lb. hammer? Maybe the palm nailer would be to slow for a 6" pole barn nail???

I really like my palm nailer.  I do notice that it seems to struggle at times with 16d galvanized nails.  I have a small 2 gal compressor with 2.5 HP.  I run the nailer at 115 psi or so.  I am still fiddling with it but in general I like having it as an accessory to swinging my arms.

Is there any way you could test the nails with a nailer and see?

Using the Senco Palm nailer with the optional pole barn spike adapter I can drive a 6" 60d spike in about 5 seconds or less.

I use a 3 horse or so CP and a DeWalt contractor type compressor - around 5 CFM  I think.

Thanks Glenn and Mike. 5 seconds seems about the same as a hammer and a lot less tyring

Your elbow will thank you for it.

Note that Harbor Freight has them too -- I don't know anything about them except that they are about 1/3 the price of the Senco (the best) with the adapter (Senco special order $25 apx), but they must have the adapter as the Harbor one says it will drive up to 60d 6" in the add.  A plus and the harbor air stuff usually works pretty good.
