It's been a long time since I asked for advice here!

I really like the look of the flooring in Dave's 20x24 cabin and
I'm not sure if that is pine or oak.
Can this (PINE) be put on top of plywood decking?
What are the pros and cons?
I would like to buy planks 5-1/2" wide and tounge and groove them myself.

Oh! I just noticed the "Finish flooring-need ideas" thread.

I put in several hundred square feet of it in an old building here.  It was done at a mill.  I think it could be done with careful planing and setup,  The old store has pine flooring that was put in in 1866.  It was full 1 1/4 I think with no sub floor.  I put 3/4 over 3/4 subfloor in the opposite direction (90 degrees turned) to match the original basement floor.  The top floor - the old one is not that smooth but looks great to me.

If you don't have your pine already... you might check out a Lumber Liquidators if you have one close-by.
(or www.lumberliquidators.com)
They have different grades of wide pine (some under $1.00 sf).
That was actually the only thing that really caught my eye that they offer.
Most of their wood is really polished... too polished looking for a cabin look.
We've chosen unfinished character white pine (homerwood.com) or equivalent that comes t&g for
a little over $2.00 sf.

Jimmy, I am sitting here looking at two samples from Lumber Liquidators that you might find worth cheching out. The first is unfinished 'Heart Pine. It is 3/4" t & g and 5" wide for $2.95 sf. The other is 'White Pine'. It is also 3/4" thick t&g 8 7/8" wide for $1.65 sf. Both are from a company called Clover Lea. I tried the tung oil on the white pine and it would be very light without first staining. I used a stain/polyurethane combo on the heart pine and love the look of it.
My place is on Cedar Creek Lake, JImmy and I'm doing trim finish work now and floors are next.. You are welcome to come visit if you like!
