ON the barn that I'm building 22' wide by 36 long I'm wondering if I should install a rafter tie on the gambrel trusses? The trusses that I'm bulding are 22' wide and 11' 10" tall built out of #1 yellow pine 2"x6 . The gussets are made out of 3/4" advantech  sub flooring 12"x32".
This is the link that I used for the design . http://www.blocklayer.com/Roof/GambrelEng.aspx

If it wasn't for bad luck . I would 't have any luck at all.

I did on ours... which created another flat spot to accumulate good stuff load. There is a good deal of thrust created by the low pitch of the upper roof. It is countered somewhat by the low horizontal force of the steep pitch but it's hard to beat the long term strength a tie will give to the roof if you can do it.

Thanks Don the rafter tie will be about 10' off the floor so I don't think I"ll will be putting any thing up there. I told the wife that I need A bigger barn to put all my stuff in it. She told me to sell some of the junk that will save us a lot of money. ???
