First of all Happy Thanksgiving. I can only hope that anyone reading this had as blessed a day as my family and I had... we have so much to be thankful to God for.

I hope someone can give me some advice on this. I've posted a pic below which shows a heater, it's fitting, and a standard propane tank. Here's my problem. First off we bought the heater at a salvage store. It's new but is missing it's box and accompanying paperwork. The manufacturer is not stamped on the heater. I'm not yet sure if it's butane or propane.

So.... I want to test the heater and make sure it works properly before installing it, running pipe, drilling through my floor etc, etc.

My plan is to take it on the porch and attach it to the propane tank then attempt to light it. The problem is I'm not sure what type of fitting/hose I need to attach the heater to the propane tank. The heater has a smaller fitting on it than the propane tank.

Since this is my first time dealing with a propane heater (trying to test/install it myself) I need to know what type of fitting/hose I should be shopping for to "test" the heater. I plan on going to town tomorrow and maybe looking for some parts. I plan on stopping by Lowes.

You likley will need a regulator assembly, just installed a 30,000 btu in my cabin this weekend. Mine required a double regulator and a 100 lb bottle I could not get the right parts at Lowes and they did not even know what I was talking about even though they sell the same heater. I went to a local propane supply store that put me the proper fittings together with a double regulator for $32.00 and showed me exactly what to do (they were pros) might be a good idea to consult a real store that deals with propane I dont think its something to take chances with.

I was able to hook up the propane to the heater and it's a natural gas heater. I figured out the manufacturer was Comfort Glow. Even IF I was able to convert it to propane (and thats a big IF on this heater) I'm still missing the hood, screen, and the logs themselves. Gonna scrap the idea. Might end up putting some propane gas logs in the firebox and just roll with it that way. Considering we only paid 5 dollars for the heater it was worth the lesson and time spent learning.
