Great day for my son.  The last several days were spent in Morgantown at the State FFA Forestry Competition.  He called early this afternoon before heading back and said that his team of 4 students (self included) won 1st Place.  To put more icing on the cake he also won 1st place in the individual competition.  Onto the National Competition in Indianapolis in October.

Also got in the mail today a copy of a CD made locally which is titled " Passing it on" which is the history of the "Rebirth of Old Time Music in Pocahontas,WV".  You guessed it.  Steven followed a recording of Sherman Hammon playing the same song "Muddy Road" some fourty years earlier.  There was not that much variation since the song has been passed down locally direct from Sherman.   Sherman was always thought of as the "Father of Applachain Old time Music".

I almost forgot that my daughter Emily is also playing guitar on the CD with a group.

How could you not be proud.

Just because something has been done and has not failed, doesn't mean it is good design.

Congratulations to your boy

If you guys are in Louisville for the 2013 National convention I'll bring you out to the property for a visit.

Fantastic... you have a lot to be proud of.  At a time where most kids would rather stay glued to a gaming console, yours are doing things to preserve our heritage and to develop strong personal skills.

Don't ever hesitate to brag on good kids!  Kudos to you for raising them right.

Thank you for sharing, Redoverfarm, and for that ray in this stormy world of ours.
I'm enjoying all that I own, the moment.

Congrats and good luck to your son! We really need to do more music as a family, too... It's hard to get everyone to practice together when there aren't any events coming up!

Thanks for all the kind words.  Steven said there was 30 teams in competition in which there were 120 students statewide just for the forestry portion of the FFA but over 1500 in other competitions relating to FFA. He was pretty excited.  His teacher was estatic.   :)
