Is 4" sufficient?

I going to go out on a limb here and say yes, I have nothing to back that up tho ???   other than the fact that your roof slope is not shallow, I wouldnt believe that you would have to worry about wind driven rains climbing 4" up your slope, most ridge caps for metal roofs that Ive seen at box stores are approx 6" on either side

Might be,  whats the pitch of roof ?  Is it a vented ridge? Did you bent a up a "dam" / (turn up a 90 deg. angle on the roof metal,)  on the metal roofing that is covered by the ridge cap?

Wind blown rain or snow melt ,IF snow can cling to the roof , IE low pitched roof , 4 / 12 or under, might be a issue.  Of course most metal roofs are greater than 4/12 in pitch, and most if not all of John's plans here are greater then 4 /12.

So it depends.

When in doubt , build it stout with something you know about .

PEG its a 12/12 pitch, with no dam and a ~12' of vent foam

Should be fine I'd say. It's hard for water to go up a 12/12.

But IF it leaks,  pop the cap off and do the snip and bend , silicone the resulting corners gaps.
