The market is in the lunch dump right now and is sort of flat waiting on the FED, so I thought I'd toss in a few of my personal predictions (Non-Market)/

First, the electric industry. I've said for years that the wire in the communications industry was dieing. Cell phones are replacing the hardwired home phone. 30 years ago when I was with the SCC. only a very few enlightened regulators felt that way. They were poo pooed as nuts and everyone else said, how can you communicate without wires.

Well, the power companies have had it too good for too long. I think we're on the very edge of the personal power system. The dreamers think cold fusion will bring that about. I think it will be the new discoveries in solar coupled with wind. The big draw back is batteries and the electric vehicle industry is coming out with some very promising ideas.

Non Electric solar such as hot water heating and space heating is progressing nicely. I predict these things will put the power companies in their place within my lifetime.

The population. This is one of my more controversial ideas and makes a lot of people angry. Sorry....It's the way I see it.
I did some lobbying a few years back and really PO'ed one of the members of the house. My statement was: "Too damn many laws already".

I can say the same thing about people, "Too damn many people!".
Modern medicine is breeding super bugs, mother nature has created super bugs and people themselves have lowered their immune system. Aids is here and spreading. We're due for another super flu. The Government is poisoning us with Frankencorn, etc.

I predict that a rather healthy slice of the population is headed west soon.

Our Government....I don't have to predict. Read about the Roman Empire, The Inca's, The Soviet Union, Japan, etc. The future has already been mapped out..

Let the counter predictions begin! :)
These here is God's finest scupturings! And there ain't no laws for the brave ones! And there ain't no asylums for the crazy ones! And there ain't no churches, except for this right here!

BTW, at my recent infection control class we were told that it may soon be mandatory that all employees at the hospital receive the flu shot - I have refused for the past 7 years...

Sassy, it's funny you mention that.  My girlfriend continues to refuse the flu shot on a yearly basis, and the Infection Control Nazi gets all bent out of shape.  Year after year, she never gets the flu, while people who have had it, continue to get it.

She works in HR/Labor Negotiation, and says that although it's something that can be brought forth through contract negotiations(mandatory vaccine), she won't have to worry about it herself, being in the position she is in.  It's funny the stories she tells about her encounters with the IC nurse.  The lady comes down to HR and practically demands her to get it, all the while my GF refusing and telling her that she can't make her.  If there is anything my GF knows, it's the contract and policy, since she negotiates one, and helps to write the other. :)

My old work tried that stunt of mandatory flu shots. I held my ground and a few of the ER/ICU staff did too. We won. I ranted early on what is next they mark us? Make us wear a bar code? No where in our contract (union job) gives you the right to enforce injections. In 10 years I think I was out sick a total of 4 days. I made a point of that.

I just read about a UK company that built an electric car,  700 HP and gets 186 miles per charge and 10 minute recharge time.    H#LL!!  I spend longer than that in line for gas..   Looks like they may have the right idea.

There is nothing I would like to see better than to see the electric companies to go the way of the dodod bird. Unfortunately building an alternative system for just one home is pretty pricey and I live here in AC country and all summer long we spin the meters. I think there will be an economy of scale that will make individual systems a less than desireable alternative and unaffordable for many. You are right about phone companies though. Our local Qwest service has a stock price of about $4.00 right now. I was talking to an Qwest employee over the weekend. He does computer work and was working on some of mine on the side. His 401K has diminished considerably since the US West days as he left it all invested in company stock. I think he said from about 500K to about 60K. He was not watching and just let it ride obviously for quite a while.
I have done so much with so little for so long that today I can do almost anything with absolutely nothing.
