Has anyone ever use one and if so do they work good?

glenn kangiser

Haven't used the James.

Review at that site.  http://www.homelessdave.com/hdwashingman.htm

We have a very nice old 1920 Dexter but Sassy hasn't used it yet.

Visible to the left of the door.

I see the  wringer is optional on the James making it a $600 washer.

I think it rather expensive too. Just trying to get an idea if it works. Then from there maybe see if someone can fabricate something similar for half the price.

glenn kangiser

Our antique one was about half the price.  Hard to find though.

I told Glenn to hook it up to a stationary bicycle and I will wash clothes, generate power & get exercise at the same time...  he's never done it though  [noidea'  I thought that was a pretty good idea  c*

The washer is in great condition... I fiberglassed the inside as there were a few pin sized holes...

Like a lot of things, if you know someone who's good at machining, you can probably get one for a lot less... I asked my husband to fabricate a broadfork for me because I just can't see paying $165 for one.

Sassy

May I ask, what is a "broadfork"?   [noidea'

Too funny.
I didn't know either so I looked it up. It is a pitch fork that is broad and good for potato planting.....

At least that is what I found on the great www.....

heh

Sassy

I was too lazy  :D  I thought it might be some "Southerner" term...   ;D

Great idea! You could do that with the James washer as well. Simple enough to do; just put an eccentric on the bike wheel or someplace, to translate the rotary motion to the back and forth.

;D Glenn will probably be the only one to catch the hidden reference in there.  ;D

I think I caught it...

Saw another post but it just vanished... ???

Always trying to do something weird to me, eh, Don. hmm

Gotta admit, it could be titillating though. [crz]

What is it with this aging thing? ... Hair in my ears, hair in my nose, eyebrows gone wild!!
I spend as much time trimming those parts as I do my beard!

I was laughing me head off reading it to Sassy, and seriously trying to get her to go in and shave.

Don are you still picking on me?   rofl

I can't seem to help myself...  :-[

weird  (wîrd)
adj. weird·er, weird·est
1. Of, relating to, or suggestive of the preternatural or supernatural.
2. Of a strikingly odd or unusual character; strange.

I think I'm gonna have to take the "W" off your computer so you can't type weird now...then I have to do something about the word, Strange.  Maybe the banned words list will convert it to eccentric so I can at least maintain a shred of dignity. hmm

The "E", "A", most of the "S" and some of the "D" are worn off now. Take the "W" and that corner'll be a mystery board.

I shall endeavor to use the word eccentric whenever I mean weird or strange.

Or perhaps I should simply use the word glenn, all in italicized lower case, when I mean weird, strange or eccentric?  ??? ... as in,   That's glenn!

glenn kangiser

I use lower case so I don't seem so overpowering...large as life --- you know --- humility? hmm

It's kind of a psychological thing.  ::)

Sassy, to answer your question from a while back before Don and Glenn started up again, Stink is right... it is a wide pitchfork with handles on both sides of the fork so that you can use your whole body weight as leverage against the soil (thus reducing back strain of digging potatoes and other root crops, and enabling you to till without disturbing the soil layers.)

Broadfork -- I'm not even gonna touch that one.  May not BPC. hmm  d*
