I may have missed it, but I have not seen any examples of pre-manufactured housing going in anywhere on the gulf coast in the wake of Katrina.

Just a quick review of some of the projects in New Orleans leads me to believe that the constructions costs are pretty high.  Any time you see a full compliment of scaffolding completely around a house makes me see $$$$.

My first piece of property (since sold) in a rural area had township requirements.  At least 1400 sf and no manufactured housing, which excluded panelized construction if I recall correctly.

A trailer or doublewide is one thing, but manufactured housing is pretty advanced and economical.  On my drive to work (when I had a real job) I witnessed a 2 story house go up in a couple of days from a trailer load of panels.

It looked as good as some of the new ones going up in N.O.

Modular housing, at this point at least, is expensive when you add everything up.
