Our area is gaining a reputation for loving extreme sports and weird events.  Red Bull is putting on this event this weekend:

A year and a half ago they put on the Flutag in front of 90,000 cheering fans on a beautiful Minnesota summer day:

We'll be going just to check it out!

Often, our ignorance is not as great as our reluctance to act on what we know.

Just when I was thinking a game of chess was where it was at..... :D

My son was on a Flugtag team in Tampa FL last year. It was so windy that they couldn't get the plane to release from the cart. Result? 8 feet, but they had a lot of fun!

That was about the average of the planes at our Flutag.  The plane that set the record was decorated as a WWII plane and the pilot was a 5'-nothing blond bombshell complete with leather skull cap and goggles.  It was designed by a glider designer.  Built by one of the rowdier bars in our area.  They sure had a blast doing it!

Never thought I'ld say it, but the event needed some tunage cranked in the background.  Seeing it was in the city, I figure they had some arrangement with the neighbors to keep the decibles down.  We watched for an hour and a half before we succumbed to the cold.  The backdrop of the start by the cathedral was spectacular though.  Maybe 20,000 there last night.  They are expecting 50,000+ for the finals tonight.
