Well I made my decision. I purchased the MS 311 saw with a 18" bar. It is built on the pro platform but is still in the mid range use section of the Stihl line. It is heavier than the MS290 @ 14.1 LBS but is 4.1 HP and uses the wider 3/8" chain. I can't wait to get it into some wood and try it out !

You will be satisfied with a Stihl.  I love my 361.
