Cement Floor in pole barn question

I am getting ready to have the floor poured in the Barndominium


my question is what to do about the pole-floor connection

this is in Wisconsin so the floor wll no-doubt be subject to frost heaving and the poles are probably buiried 6 feet deep and will be free from movement up and down (code frost line is 48")

so should I just have the floor poured with no contact with the poles -- how much clearance is needed ?


Is there something else to be considered ?

I've seen it done by wrapping the pole or column with heavy visqueen for the depth of the slab, usually at least 6 mil or by leaving a small gap of no more than an inch. Actually, if the building is going to be heated, you should not experience much heaving on a slab.

For more freedom of movement you could use cardboard for the wrap then remove it and put flexible caulk in the space after the pour and cure.  That is similar to what we do in big construction.  They use foam backer bars below the caulk.
