we we're 'grabbed' by everyone there --contractors mostly   

it must be very tough

This county has been one of the fastest growing counties in the US but there are lots of projects that have just stopped

I did see some of that James Hardie siding material -- looks really good 

got some good ideas

Some of us have added a local area to the profile of our own bad selves . Makes thing , like where your located , area conditions , regional building term / styles , etc easier to figure out and / or understand.

You might consider doing like wise.

  Things are pretty slow here in the PNW , thankfully the company I work for now has a couple of big jobs going , but we're. #1 thankful we have work , #2 looking for more every day.
