Outfitting a Remote Cabin

I think the most important furnishing for a remote cabin is ... a couple of fire extinguishers.

And somewhere, perhaps outside, a heavy plastic trash barrel filled with water and just enough anti-freeze to keep it from freezing.   Has to be secured to keep animals from drinking it.  Be sure to use the enviromentally good stuff.   Keep a couple of fire buckets inside the barrel.

Another critical resourse in a remote cabin is an emergency shelter away from the main building in case it catches fire and burns down. This could be nothing more than an insulated tool shed with a sealed box with some food, water, blankets, candles/lantern and an air mattress.

This could even be a loft over a garage (there's a reason why smart farmers/ranchers/homesteaders don't have attached garages!).
