We have 13 1/2 acres in northern Minnesota.  Right now, it is used for camping/wildlife/fishing base.

We made the trek this past weekend for a relaxing get-together that included 9 people and 6 dogs.  Kind of a mad house at times, but enjoyable none the less.

On Sunday, the boys were out in the woods making bunkers for paintball out of old trees and branches.  All of a sudden, they yelled for us to come over and take a look.  Here is what they saw at the base of a dead tree:

Amazing in two ways...

1.  The boys had enough woods sense to check their surroundings...
2.  This bird escaped detection by no less than 6 dogs...(maybe not saying much for the dogs?)

The other neat thing about the land is that we love the birds.  We feed them while we are up there and have a big feeder to take care of them (and the bears) when we're not.  We've had up to 20 goldfinches at one time.  This weekend, my brother-in-law brought up an oriole feeder.  We've been up there 3 years now, and have never seen an oriole up there.  It only took an hour for this one to find it:

Monday, there were 5 orioles, and a couple of humming birds as a bonus.

A bad day of fishing beats a good day at work any day, but building something with your own hands beats anything.

Grape jelly is a big hit with Orioles too
Often, our ignorance is not as great as our reluctance to act on what we know.
