I've been working outside all week and fighting a cold that turned into a sinus infection. Seems to have settled in my left ear and I think its getting ready to blow... any home remedies?

It may be too late now, but a Neti Pot used at first sign of trouble can frequently prevent what's developing from getting worse. I have one here at home, one at the cabin and one in the Jeep camping gear.
There are many out there. They look like this....

and get used like this...

Cleans the crap out of the sinuses really great.

Possibly helpful but in general helps from ever getting to that point.

Get a small sprayer - atomizer type like you would spray windows with - and inhale five sprays of hydrogen peroxide three times per day.  I have also sniffed one spray up each nostril.

Bill Munroe says to just use the off the shelf 3% type however some say metals are used to preserve it.  He says don't worry about it.  If you go to the food grade or peroxide blond grade from a beauty supply be sure to dilute it to 3% before use.

I for one would not want to apply an oxidizer onto sensitive nasal membranes. It is not generally looked upon as a good antiseptic anymore as it does not discriminate between good and bad tissue. It just oxidizes everything.  But that may be my cautious approach.

In the neti pot we use plain water and a touch of salt, just as if mixing it for a mouth rinse.

Yup - may not be good - especially the nose thing I do sometimes maybe once a year - but the inhalations seem to work well as Bill above says.

I have a powered version of the neti called grossan hydropulse. I have used it for years at the first sign of trouble or right after dusty work and it does wonders. It uses a tiny recip pump to deliver small pulse flow.  However once you get to the earache stage you will probably need something else.

And in style too ;D

I'm not saying the Dutch are hardheaded or anything but the valve is open when the key is across the pipe and closed when it's in line  :D

I had a similar situation that started the day after Christmas.   It "settled" in my left ear and a few days later it worked its way down my jaw to the neck.   The lymph nodes got sore and enlarged near the throat . . .    It started to get hard to swallow.

A doctors visit and $70.00 of antibiotics solved the problem.   It took 3-4 days before I started to feel better.

Point is - Don't let it get to far before seeing a doctor.
