If it were mine I would go the sono-tube route gravel base w/concrete and fastners embeded in the tops for the beams.  If you think you will get settling then adjustable type. Never have to worry about rot, bugs and the like.  If you had someone with a 12" auger it would eliminate the need to dig. Got any friends in the power company?

Nice that the power company there is setting you up with temp. power. The power company here refused to install anything temp. and said I could only get power when the house was ready for permanent power unless I wanted to pay for the work. So I'm stuck using a generator until the house is wired.
