jraabe

The are good looking... do you think they are real? Shouldn't their be a greasy looking boss somewhere?

So -- do I dump them this weekend or save the posting for the guys who like to look at their pictures? :-/

artbgdOlga(Guest)

Thanks to your telling criticism. My English is very bad. ((

They are cute.  Apparently they do a pretty good job with graphics, and I admit I admire their entrepreneurial spirit.  Not only that, but they communicate much better in English than I ever could in their native language. (Russian perhaps?)  However, I think most of us on this forum are trying to do things as inexpensively as possible, whether from lack of funds, or just because we want to do it ourselves.  I may not do as good a job at graphics as they do, and I'm definitely not nearly as attractive, but for me, the thought exercise and process of doing my own drawings is half the fun.  I draw on scrap paper and in my trusty wirebound notebook from Wal-Mart.  I wish them well, but won't be using their services.

Well, Olga, now that you came back and we gave you a bad time, please tell us where you're from.  You are welcome to the forum, so please tell us what services you have that may be of use to someone building a small home. Also what is the cost of your applicable services.  I don't know of anyone interested in using them at this time, as most here are do it yourself people, but tell us more.  You never know.

We have members from several countries around the world and won't give you a bad time about English. I'm sure most of us can't speak any of your native language.  Looks like you may be from the Ukraine.

To help with your success, you need to get someone on your team who does quite well at English so people will take you seriously - clean up spelling mistakes etc. on your site.  Customers in English speaking countries won't use your services as quickly  if they think there may be a problem with the spelling.  This applies especially to the permanent portions of your site, - not as much to day to day communications such as these postings.

Good luck on your venture.  Please come back and talk to us.  I communicate with a building graphic designer in China once in a while, who signed up on the old forum.

Sorry about being critical - we have guests from other countries who post real SPAM (junk advertising postings) and we get rid of them as soon as possible and block them from the forum.  They don't usually reply to us.  If you are coming back to talk to us once in a while you may want to sign up as a member.  It is free.  We do try to be fair.  Perhaps you have something to contribute about small homes and small home  building in your country?

Glenn, I do have a weakness for the ladies. I sent a simple appology to their site, along with a invitation to return as a 'contributor' only. Hope ya'll don't mind.
It's the "artist" in me I guess. (I do portraits and figures in pencil. Classical style.)

glenn-k

No problem, Dail.  You just complimented them.

I hope she has enough interest in our site to come back and talk to us.  It would be great to have a member in the Ukraine to tell us about construction over there - I'm interested in historic building there too.  Some sales people don't have time to do any more than drop by and try to make a sale- too busy trying to get their business going and keep eating.

Unlike the spammers that deluge us with junk, there is a possibility that Olga has a product that is of use to someone here, however it would be nice if she would also represent her area as a member here.

Olga

Hi,

We are really situated on Ukraine.
In 3d we can make any house according you plan and scetches. For example we receive plan of 1 and 2 flor and garret. Houses will be modeled in scale according you plan. We can create textures and environment based on your photos or our sources. "camera flying around" is possible
Visualization used vray render.

Olga.

Most of the guys here at this site Olga, pretty much do things themselves. So really may not want or have need of, your new startup companies services. However...

Having seen samples of your groups work at your website, and with alot of the guys here being involved in construction in someway, they may know of an architect or developer who may have interest in your proposed field of architectural renderings, and would be glad to reconmend your group to them, for their potential consideration.

In any event, you may find the folks at this forum helpful and benneficial in many other ways. I know I for one, would be interested in how things are done in your country cultrually and architecturally.

And oh, by the way, I am "English," and can't spell worth "beans" either....d :)

glenn-k

Glad to see you signed up as a new member, Olga.  Is there any chance that you have a digital camera and could post any pictures of interesting architecture in your area.

We like pictures.  Welcome to the forum.

Just a thought... Maybe we could have a separate forum for vendors to promote their products and services? Provided it is relevant to home building or country living and they provide some explanation of how it works, what makes it better than others, pricing, etc. Outright spam can removed. Anyone interested can ask questions and we can keep ads out of the other forums.

Olga's 3d rendering service could be useful for someone having to make their case before a board of variance, or whose building plans are subject to stringent architectural review.

What a delightful way the folk on this forum handled Olga's approach. I'm so glad that she responded to your kindness by joining the forum.

It's always good to be able to discover more about the ways things are done in other countries.

best wishes Olga from downunder (Australia)

Probaly not a good idea to start up ads. Though they may be of some use to some, its really better to just mention them as has been done in the past via conversations. Sales people can be very extreame in their approach at times.
I think this paticular situation was a unique one that needed to be handle a little differently. Under the old Soviet Union, folks over there really didn't have a good opportunity to learn about us 'Yanks' 'Aussi's' etc. and our ways. I for one, didn't want her to misunderstand our joking in the initial response to her request as being typical of "outsiders" to their home land. And I know at first, I wasn't really sure where she was located till I did some research and realized.
My opinion anyway....

Since John has a no advertising policy, I was tempted to remove this right away however after the poll and no one regarded it as SPAM, which really gets to me, I decided to let it ride a bit.  It may have some potential usefulness to us or to someone somewhere in the world.   We all advertise for Home Depot, Amazon, Real Goods, Backwoods Solar etc. when it is something we need or find useful.  Usually it is something we put in the links section.  I haven't moved this there yet because I am still evaluating it.  As things progressed we found that Olga was not a SPAM advertiser, but a real person who responded to us.  It is interesting to see how far our little forum reaches.

The real value to us, as I see it, is having a member in the Ukraine who can possibly enlighten us on how things are done or have been done in the past in her country.  Hopefully she will find time to participate in some of our discussions.

I have to give her credit for coming back and talking to us even after we gave her a bad time.  She thanked us for our criticism - hopefully constructive, and joined as a member.  This is also an opportunity for her to use and improve her English skills.  Hopefully we can all gain from this experience.  As Cecilia mentioned this could be a good opportunity to learn of the Ukraine.  We have our motives too.

Here is where her country is:

and some info from The Free Dictionary.

U·kraine
A country of eastern Europe bordering on the Black Sea. Inhabited in early times by Scythians and Sarmatians, it was overrun by a number of conquerors, including Goths and Huns, until the rise of Kiev in the 9th century. The region came under the control of Lithuania in the mid-14th century and later passed to Poland and then to Russia (between 1680 and 1793). After the Russian Revolution an independent republic was proclaimed (1918), but Soviet troops retook control, and in 1922 it became one of the original constituent republics of the USSR, known as the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic. During World War II the republic suffered severe devastation under German occupation and underwent many territorial changes. Ukraine gained its independence following the collapse of the USSR in 1991. Kiev is the capital and largest city. Population: 48,000,000.

Note that as Daddymem brought up in the poll, for most of us who do it ourselves, 3DHA version  3 , will let us design our houses, visualize them in 3D and do a fly through for around $6.00

Not extremely fancy but the price is right.

mikeschn does some awesome work, perhaps he should set up shop?  :)

glenn-k

The program he uses and the work he does is really great.  Probably too high a learning curve for me - only so many years left you know.   :)

Daddymem

Bah, get one of them "<insert program name> For Dummies" books and you'd be fine.   ;)

glenn-k

I'm sorry, Daddymem.  I have a mental block against the entire "For Dummies" series.  I just can't take it. :-/

Daddymem

naw, you're only a dummy until you finish the book  :D
