That plan, as well as any of John;s other plans can be modified by the owner -builder. Going longer is quite simple. One adds wall stud and rafter bays to reach the length desired.

When you receive the paln set you can photocopy pages and use a cut and paste technique to arrive at what you want. You can make as many copies as you want. If cutting and pasting it's a good idea to retain a set of originals and make changes with the copies.

Just because something has been done and has not failed, doesn’t mean it is good design.

As Don mentions we do not customize the plans to suit, but we give you the right to make such modifications. Extending the length is relatively easy from a structural point of view. Of course, the extra floor space needs to be laid out for your uses and perhaps the building department will want a copy of your modified plan as well.

The cut and paste method is the easiest but may not have the detail you want. On our sister subscription site, PlanHelp.com there are template plans that can be downloaded that help with these modifications. When you are happy with your modified floor plan, it can be printed to scale and pasted back into your paper plans. This does involve buying and learning a software program. See link below image:

You can also work with a local builder or designer to make the modifications for you.

Here is an illustrative example of a 20' wide house that was extended to 40' - this is the 1-1/2 story plan:
