Howie

First, thank you for the wealth of knowledge via this site and the plans put out by Country Plans.

I've recently purchased the Big Enchilada and have read thru it repeatedly.
We are located in NE Oklahoma.
Our initial plan was to build a 14'x26' with a loft on each end.
We were planning to work up with a 3-Beam post and pier base.
I've dug in and concreted w/rebar the 4 corners of 14'x26'.  Then I got the Big E.
After numerous reviews, we are currently thinking about a 16'x30' with a loft on each end.
We will then add additions, decks and a sunroom.

After reading a lot of posts in this forum, I have a few questions;
1.  My biggest concern would be the roof and wall load on any floor joist over hang from the beams, Thoughts??  Calculations??

2.  Similar to the Michigan cabin on the homepage, can I simply extend to 16' with the floor joists OR should I contact John Raabe and order the 16' plans??

3.  Instead of using 16' floor joists, can I use 10' joists with a little overlap over the center beam??

Again, thank you for this forum and any assistance you can provide.

Howie , welcome to the forum jarhead. theres a few other marines on here as well.

On here somewhere( maybe the front page) there is a free 16' wide floor plan. I, like you and others, thought small in the begining and wanted to upgrade.http://countryplans.com/smf/index.php?topic=6288.0

Yes the center beam would make for a more solid floor.

look forward to see your progress.

Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference in the world. But, the Marines don't have that problem.

Darrell,
Thanks for the reply.
I think I read every post on this page, except the "Need Advice" posting.
As soon as I sent my question, my wife read a little and saw it.   ;D

I have seen numerous pictures on this site that show the joists overhang.
I just need to make sure that I am on the right track.
The center beam cannot hurt, that's for sure.
I have always added "P= Plenty" to every mathematical equation.
