Heater For A Small Space

Here's a project a guy built for a small sailboat; uses charcoal briquettes. Might be worth looking into for a small cabin. It would also be easy enough to draw the combustion air from outside. Maybe use a B vent for the chimney? He built it for a boat, but built this before the boat so we don't know how he vented the exhaust.

Considering that charcoal is a super source of CO,  careful construction and air tightness would be mandatory. Some heat shields would be needed too IMO.
Just because something has been done and has not failed, doesn't mean it is good design.
