Is tempered masonite ever used for siding? Any pros or cons.
I happen to have some 1/4 in tempered masonite that was bonded to a sheet of 1/2 plywood
shiny side outside. I started to use it for just a structural stifner prior to putting on
regular siding. It seems that this stuff is pretty rugged. This is for an old garage so there are
no real esthetic considerations that can't be cured with a coat of paint.Although over
all this project is looking a lot better than I thought it would. Mostly due
to the tips and encouragement from all of you.

Don't waste your time it will swell and fall apart . 30 or so years ago when I started in this business we where putting up a 12" wide 16' long  , IIRC,  Masonite siding ,  it  was crap ! The stuff your talking about is not made for exterior use . Put some in a bucket of water for a day or so and see what happens.
When in doubt , build it stout with something you know about .

PEG  is right again. However it will work on the interior of your garage to finish the walls, bench tops, etc so you can use it up there.
I have done so much with so little for so long that today I can do almost anything with absolutely nothing.
