Today Mike was installing our porch fans and lights and ran into a problem. So, he asked me to come to the forum for some advice as to what to do to correct the issue.

He wired with one line of 12/3 wire going from the inside switch and split it in the attic going outside to power the 2  fans / light kits on the front porch. For many months we've had temporary lights powered from this source with no problem.
Today he installed the fans / lights and is still getting power ..... the fans work great but neither light kit works on either fan.

He changed bulbs, pulled the fan / light chains, rechecked his wiring method according to installation directions but still no lights.

After wiring the whole house this one has him stumped! ???

Can someone ENLIGHTEN him? :D

It probably has to do with the right configuration in the fan housing.  Most companies have each labled but if they were not there are probably two (three including the neutral) which are not wire-nutted or capped.  If you do not have two seperate hot leads to operate the fan/light seperately then both the fan and light wires need to be connected together with the hot(black) from the house.

Also - the connections may be in the light kit part that is below the fan - you may have to take it apart and look.

Are using 12/3 all the way to the fans and are you connecting the light kits to the third lead of the 3 conductor cable?  If so, do you have power to it?  You may not be feeding it from the switch or the the third conductor may not be properly spliced where they split.
