T&G Pine over Metal Studs

My basement walls have steel studs. I want to put some T&G pine on one of the walls. How?

Strap it with wood first?

A layer of OSB sheets first, screwed to the steel studs. Then nail the T&G through the OSB and avoid the steel stud areas.

I had the same thought. Maybe even add some construction as
adhesive to the back of the pine?

Don't really need the adhesive if you nail every 16 to 24", IMO.  The nails go in at an angle through the tongue so have good pull out resistance.  But as long as the adhesive can be squished flat very well it should not hurt. You don't want a lump of adhesive keeping the T&G pine from intimate contact with the underlayment.  Maybe a dab of polyurethane adhesive here and there?
