I am going to place some type of furring strip between my housewrap and my fibercement siding to enhance drainage and drying.

I would like to find something cheap that was plastic; plastic being important because it would/should be inert and not react in any way with the waterproof/water repellant nature of the housewrap.

I have considered treated 2x stock ripped down into 3/8" thicknesses, but does anybody know if there are any adverse reactions between the "treating chemicals" in the wood and the housewrap.

Likewise, does anybody have any good suggestions for an insect proof spacer to be used at bottom and top.

I found the Dri-Side product line made by Finn Systems, but haven't found anything else to compare it too.

thanks

A simple, effective solution for venting behind wood, hardboard & fiber cement siding.

Venting behind your siding is just as necessary and valuable as venting your attic.  Trapped moisture from driving rain or condensation can cause major problems.  Paint peels off, exterior sheathing gets wet, siding can warp and your house wrap becomes saturated.  SV-3 & SV-5 solves these problems with a minimum amount of work and expense.

Key Benefits

• Helps to prevent paint from peeling.
• SV-3 = 5 Sq. In. NFVA per lineal foot.
• 7/16" x 3" x 4' cross section.
• SV-5 = 8.5 Sq. In. NFVA per lineal foot.
• 3/4" x 3" x 4' cross section.
• Prevents moisture from being trapped behind the siding.
• Made from heat resistant polypropylene.
• Power nailable

When in doubt , build it stout with something you know about .

One of the draw backs of ad-lib your vented siding is to create an insect barrier.  It appears that the product that Peg mentioned took this in mind.  If you can develope a shield you could use vinyle or plastic 1X's . I think this one has 1X3X8's for about $1.03
