The big problem with living in anything (in the US, anyway) called "estates" is that they are very likely to have minimum sizes, and a bunch of restrictions that would drive me batty.

Southern Living (the ones in the link--although it didn't want to open for me from that, I ran a search) has plan periodicals on the magazine stands several times a year.  I do like a few of their plans.  Especially some of the ones they seem to have discontinued.

And in general looking carefully through a handful of those plan periodicals will teach you a lot about design.

Imagine walking in the door, putting away your jacket, putting away groceries, cooking something moderately complicated.  Also, navigating the house when you have the flu.  And make some other scenarios and see how the plan works with them.

If you can have a small house, then John's plans are extremely adaptable, generally easy to build, and there's lots of help here.

Well said, Amanda - -- What happened - the other postings disappeared? :-?

I pulled the other two as they seemed to be a pretty obvious setup.  The two new members were from India posting within a few minutes of each other.  Chances of that happening are next to none. :o

John's Plans are very reasonable compared to the ones they were offering.  If they feel I am wrong they can come back and talk to me about it.  For now I will not block them from the forum.

The link may have been to the southern living plans, although I couldn't open it--and PC-Cillin mentioned it had blocked something somewhere in there.   If it was, then they are pretty standard--reasonably nice--house plans.  I even own one set.  Wouldn't object much to the house (400sf, and cute), although I'm sure that I'd have to add on to it sooner or later.

I took a quick look but the plans cost up to 10 times the cost of John's and it seemed a pretty slippery blatant way to pull members over to their site for sales of nice gingerbreaded plans.  John's plans can have gingerbread and look just as nice.

The two new members were probably one and the same to boot.  :o  Shocking behavior!
Just because something has been done and has not failed, doesn't mean it is good design.

Unless some ISP pulled a trick on me again - but----- while both new members gave Georgia addresses, both of their ISP's were from India.  Seems a long way around to get here --- but there are a lot of shrewd marketers over there. :)

If I'm wrong I left it open for them to contact me - at least I'll try to be fair about it. :)

Bet anything that the postings were the work of some contributing architect, or plan printing service, ... some third party entity ... and not "Southern Living" itself.
