I just bought a Senco FramePro 325XP Paper Taped Framing Nailer (34 deg.). It says on the gun that it will shoot 30 to 34 degree paper tape nails up to 3.25" long.

I had a few strips of Paslode 30 deg., 3.25" nails leftover from when I had a Paslode gun.

When I put the nails in the Senco, the point of the nail reaches the firing chamber first with the head of the nail being still tilted back a bit.

So, I thought the 30 deg. nails in the 34 deg. nailer would be a good test as to how well it handles 30 deg. nails.

Well, the Senco fires the nails just fine, however:

Just out of curiosity, I measured the angle of the Senco's magazine to the firing tube with a protractor and I get 30 deg. ?

Then, measuring the angle of the 30 deg. Paslode nails, I get 34 deg. ?

I said to myself, "self, what's going on here", so I measured each again several times and get the same results.

Somebody please, measure you nailgun magazine angle with a protractor and tell me what I'm doing wrong in the way I'm measuring the angle.

Thanks,
Arky

I know this is a frivolous concern since the nails work ok in the nailgun,
but it seems so puzzling to me.

I just bought a box of Grip Rite brand 30 degree nails for this gun
and measured them with a protractor and they also measure 34 degrees
just as the Paslode nails do.

It's my understanding the the collated angle is how much of an
angle that the nailgun magazine is tilted up from the surface of what you're nailing
when the firing tube is perpendicular to that surface.

It just seems so weird to me that two brands of 30 degree nails
measure 34 degrees and the Senco 34 degree nailgun
measures 30 degrees.

(If there is a way to measure this angle that gives different
results, I would sure like to know what it is)

(I tried to get Senco to comment on this, but they won't)

Has anyone else noticed this on your nailgun or nails ?
