I was helping a neighbor fix a tear in his RV roof and thought I'd post the info here just in case someone needs a good roof repair material someday.  :) I've used it to seal a gouge/tear in the side of the RV aluminum skin where a tree reached out and tore the skin as well.     ::)  Eternabond is a great sealant in tape form. It's very sticky; sticks to most anything except silicone and has a backing material, vinyl (white, black, grey) or thin aluminum. Even an extra thick version for pressing into granulated roof material. Handy stuff for patching lots of types of roofs, gutter seams and so on. It's available from many roofing suppliers and RV dealers. The best price I've found is from   http://www.bestmaterials.com/Eternabond.aspx   They even have online repair videos or you can order a free CD.
Just because something has been done and has not failed, doesn't mean it is good design.

It sounds really useful.

Maybe I shouldn't get any before we put the little metal roof on what may one day be an earth oven, just so we won't think, "it's OK, we've got the stuff to fix those holes."

Sounds like a dressed up version of Grace Vycor or Bituthane.  Two other handy stickums
