Has anyone read the book called
"Building an Affordable House"
by Fernando Pagés Ruiz?

If so, what did you think and was it realistic and helpful?

Our library has this book, and I read it a couple of years ago. Maybe three or four, I don't recall. I do recall he recommends square houses first, then rectangle houses. He recommends as few interior walls as possible due to the heating and cooling. If you can check it out from the library, do it. Check it out a few times; it'll be worth it. Not sure about buying it though. A lot of it seemed to be common sense to me but only because of what I've learned here. So, I guess what I'm saying is stick around here and pay attention to the regulars and you'll learn what's in that book. And probably more.

I have a copy of the book.  Yes, I think it is worthwhile to own.  While some on this forum might not agree, I particularly liked the OVE (optimum value engineering) material, which translates to 2x6 framing on 24" centers (amongst other things).
