construction cabin start-up/modification

I have my land, and the code allows me to build a structure w/o a permit if it is under 200 sf.   Therefore I plan on building a 12 x 16 cabin, 10 feet high with a shed roof using the plans John supplied with my order.  (the end game is a Victoria's cabin with full or partial basement).

Here is my situation/question:  Prior to buying/acquiring all my wood for the construction cabin, I was given 18 4x4's (#2 greed Douglas Fir) that are 12 feet in length plus about 16 2x6s that are 10 and 8 feet in length.  Can I use the 4x s instead of 2x4s and thus have the sides be more like a post and beam structure?  Can I get by with spacing the 4x's at 24 inches o.c.?

Yes, you could use the 4x4s for "studs" at 24" centers.

Easy to nail to   as well.

Thanks, John.  Between this free wood and the reclaimed materials (sheathing for the sides, floor and roof), I hope to build this construction cabin for less than $1000.
