Here is the cover page of a free catalog I picked up recently. It has some useful ideas for building inexpensive cabins such as might be done with the Little House or Enchilada plans.

There are several easy to implement lessons of this compound:
• It uses rough sawn plywood as both the structural sheathing and siding. This is called single wall construction.
• Each cabin is tied together and to the landscape with a wide deck that serves as an outdoor room.
• The joints in the plywood siding are covered and the windows and doors trimmed with simple 1x4s.
• The roof has a 2' overhang trimmed with 1x6
• The roofing material is roll roofing
• Anodized aluminum windows
• A careful but not too fussy painting pallet with the yellow doors as an accent.

This single wall construction brings to mind an old cabin we just got some antiques from.  Built around 1940 or earlier, it is all rough sawn pine 1x12 single wall board and batten construction, and still standing.

It's old , it's rough, it needs a lot of work, but it's standing and raised a whole family.  Reminds me of myself. ;D
