A question for everyone with lofts

Anytime I worked in the loft this summer it seemed 20 degrees warmer than the downstairs. I can't imagine trying to sleep up there in the summer or (more to the point) with the wood stove going in the winter. Will insulating the place help? How do you all deal with the extra heat? (Window fans in the summer, I assume, but what about the winter?)

I replaced all the insulation in the loft this summer, it was brutal hot until i got the replacement insulation installed.

considerations

Fans and ventilation.  My fan blows the warm air downstairs, and the ventilation is still a plan.
