Romex wire (copper prices)

I picked up a few things today for my cabin project and noticed that the price of Romex was up. 12-2 w/ground $62 for 250'. I went ahead and bought a 250' roll, thinking that the price will continue up the rest of this year and into next spring; when I start construction.  One bit of good news is I got a 250' 14/3 with ground for free recently.

Anyway for my small project not a big deal, but for those building bigger, solar systems, or using copper plumbing it's something to think about. Buy now or buy later.

I recently paid $63 something here in CA and saw a similar price at Home Depot.

Dito... same here in Texas but when you gota have it, like I did, you pay the $63.00. I remember not long ago it was 40.00 or so a roll and I was going to buy  thousand foot but I did not.

It's the dollar.



As the dollar falls in value, prices increase.  Right now, it's almost in daily free fall.  The dollar is literally worth less internationally, and when us dollars compete with China and Europe for raw goods like copper or steel or oil or aluminum, we must pay more because the value of us currency decreases.  You can also see the phenomenon in the price of gasoline, or any raw materials. 

As for future pricing forecasts, it depends on what our Treasury and federal reserve does next.
