Our house plan has a  "Jack and Jill" type BR.  This will be the only BR in the house.  There will be a sm "powder room" (lav/toilet) opening off the main hallway and also the same off the MBR. Both of these will have access to the shower room.  This room will be approx 5.5'x6.5'.  At this point I'm thinking the whole room will be tiled or there is a product that is used for pools that could be used. We may add a soaking tub.

Any ideas, thoughts, previous experience with something similar you'd like to share?

Thanks,
Judy

By soaking tub I assume you are speaking of a hot tub with quite a bit of water - we have a large Jacuzzi type tub at our other house and don't use it much due to the long time to fill it - refilling to maintain heat then draining it all - I guess you can add heaters.  In my opinion, a real indoor hot tub complete with a filter and heater would be better - water is filtered and treated - the peroxide method is mentioned as best and safest - I had a link on the old forum - don't know if it made the trip.  Water could be changed semi-annually rather than each time it is used.  I think a sauna is something that would be cool to incorporate also although a separate structure may be better.

Actually, I'm thinking of something more like an Ofuro http://www.woodentubs.com/ nothing with jets or fancy stuff to break or that require lots of work to keep clean.  I'm not a bath person but occasionally like to soak. An acquaintance here found an old stainless steel therapy tub from a hospital that they use for a soaking tub.  I'm on the lookout for one of those.

I always have to mull these things over for a while and then suddenly the right thing appears.

Would not be too hard to tile the entire room and with a variety of materieals make it look quite nice. Good luck with it.

That looks like it would be nice - like a good quiet soak in the hot springs.

You could tile the whole room and put a drain in the center of the floor. This would make for a very expansive shower - invite all your friends!  8-)

Here is a small fiberglass soak tub we have in our guest suite. It has worked well for many years and takes only a bit more water than a standard tub (no jets, no heater).

John, since we saw that picture on your website, my wife and I have wanted of a tub like that.

Me too!

(The traditional ofuro almost had to be kept filled with water--it was made of wood, didn't leak until it dried out, so it was kept hot as well)
