I Stumbled upon this place and decided I had to become a member.
So I guess I will make an introduction.
I am currently located in Amish country in PA.
I am rehabing on a WWII era cinder block house at the moment.
We have about an acre and we are fighting the growth that happened this year before we took possesion.
We plan to produce most of our own food and I have several construction projects planned; including a root celler, pallet wood shed, hen house, rabbit hutch, and car port.
This is above and beyond reversing 67 years of neglect and poorly planned remodeling of the house.
The real reason I am here is because I also have 40 acres in Northern Nevada.
This property is my retirement homestead (maybe sooner if the ecconomy doesn't recover).
That is where this place come in.
I intend to build several earth protected structures, including my home and animal shelters.
I have read several books on the subject of underground homes.
My first one was the $50 underground house book.
So I came to learn and get as much information into my head before I start digging.
I plan for the root cellar at my current residence to be my practice run on the Nevada house.
I am looking forward to what you guys have to teach and am a willing student.
Slainte  :)

I am the troglodyte here OB, and I will be happy to help you with what I can. Others will help with the conventional stuff and we have lots of people who know lots about lots of things...

You will find the $50 book to be the most practical and cost effective of all.  I have some tips to make it even more successful.  The other methods pretty much get out of hand cost wise fast.

There are getting to be a few more of us as the word gets out....

So have you looked through my rantings? ... [waiting]

... oh.. and w* to the forum

My Nevada place is a couple of hundred miles from Eureka, closer to Winnemucca.
