need some ideas and pics of the best layout for a12X12 trappers cabin

hoping to build a trap cabin this spring and would welcome some pics and layout ideas to best utilize the 12X12 space . no bathroom all open,( bed,woodstove ,table, cooking counter)p.s any nifty things you have made or done to make the cabin more usefull also appreciated. thanks Bushrat

A 12x12 is just about too small for a woodstove, unless you don't insulate it much or at all, or build it leaky to air movement. Not to mention that most woodburners are going to eat up a lot of that space with their required clearances.

I assume this is off grid?   A small grid powered cabin could be heated electrically.   Next best thing would be a propane heater, although I do not like the ventfree type. Too much danger of waking up dead from CO.

Other than that I can see most things up against walls with the door centered on one wall, free space in the middle.

Built a 12x12 last fall http://countryplans.com/smf/index.php?topic=7712.0 went with a gable roof to shed snow, and provide a nice sleeping loft.

Going to put one of these http://www.rural-energy.com/catalog/product/288 propane heaters in a couple of weeks, I'll let you know how it goes. Decided on propane for the reasons MD stated, with a wood stove you will either be freezing or in a sauna.

A 20# or 40# bottle will likely last a long time. An RV type dual stage auto changeover regulator with two bottles will help avoid the middle of the night no propane problem. Plus the propane can be used for a cooktop.

Just one of many regulators and many places to buy. This was just the first one I found at a decent price. Others sell the same thing for $55.

thanks guys, was planning on the woodstove because I have a welder friend who makes them for ice fishing shacks. there 14" diameter by 24" long with the top 3" cut off and back about 16" so you end up with a n area where he welds a flat plate on for cooking and siting a kettle on, they work great and you can control the amount of heat by not over filling the fire box.have used them in 8X8 ice fishing shacks and been comfortable.I like the propane ideaalso but am in the middle of 4 townships in the midddle of nowhere and there is so much free wood just lying there and can not see how I could pass up this free heat source. I do plan on having a loft so that does help spread the heat out a bit more and I can open a window to help if ti gets to hot. I f things work out htis year with work I will probably go 12x16 any way , which will give me more room , especially with the loft area. again thanks and keep the pics coming.  p.s. I am a licensed plumber (20 yaers experience if anyone needs a question answered, I can probably help)

Many of the ice shanties at my lake use wood stoves. Usually built from 15 gal grease barrels. They fish at -30 with little or no insulation. Most are 8X10 or 8X12. Get A Mr Heater for backup.
