I just received an estimate to drill a water well. $5,000.00 for 100' including the pump. Does that sounds reasonable? Anything else I should be certain the estimate includes?

Anyone have any experience using a solar pump? What cost would that typically add to a system.

It could be reasonable depending on where you are.

The solar pump is for sale online around $1600 -Grundfos SQ Flex, but add a controller, panels - labor - freight - tank - it would be more than your quote alone.

Maybe $20 a foot for the well - $2000 - That leaves $3000 for the pump and labor - fairly reasonable depending on your system.

I dont have any info on the solar pump. But I paid $8.50 a foot  to have the well drilled(200'). and when I go to add pump and they'll even tie to my house for another $ 3300.00.
so, I  think thats an average price. But well drillers dont normally guarantee water at a certain depth. my driller said less than a mile down the road they drilled a 800',500' and a300' before they hit water. the lady had to pay per foot, water or not. I dont say this to scare you, but they may have to go deeper .

I'm envious.  The two quotes I've had for about 250' of depth are in the mid-$20k range.   :o  This is an expensive area to have work like that done.  Be thankful.

That's the same price I was quoted here in OK.

The price quoted is using an AC pump (not solar). The driller checked the state database for my area and the typical depth is 100'-150'. I've also confirmed these numbers with a few of the farmers in the area. I have an area that is always wet no matter how dry a summer we have. It must be spring fed as it's on the high point of the property. I'm trying to get another bid to keep things competitive. I'll also request a written bid so I can tell you all what equipment he is suggesting.

Thank you for all your comments.

my neighbor down the road just paid 6000 for a complet well system. I thought it was a bit high till he told me that was with a guarantee to strike water. well driller said he would drill till he hit, even if he had to drill another hole, or another, etc. that made it a little better I supose. FWIW, water here is in the 200- 280 ft depth.

Wow! That is an amazing price. Try $30 a foot in our mountains, and there's no guarantee that you get anything other than a hole in the ground.

500 to 600 feet is not unheard of at our elevation.

Just because something has been done and has not failed, doesn't mean it is good design.

MountainDon, yes Iwas very happy with it . 4 other bids were all $10.00 ft, and when they start who knows how deep? I was very nervous.

But I feel very fortunate, so far everything has been under my cost estimates. Im still waiting to hear back on my foundation. My cost estimate onthat is Under $4000.00. :-\

That 10.00 a foot may or may not include the casing and a liner if the well is not in hard ground you should put a liner in it.
My well is 500 ft deep and it need to be lined the whole way it brought the price up to 20.00 Ft.
With the solar pump and tank I'm out 15,000.
We hit enough water at around 350 but I had them go deeper making the well more relieable buy allowing it to recover faster with more storage in the casing.
Be there when they are drilling it something might come up that you need to deside on.

Good luck,W
