I need some help with a block wall that is 11' x 38'. This is the long wall in the basement of a 24' x 38' , 1 1/2 story. In my reading it is stated that a "outcropping" will be needed when the Sq. Ft. is more than 240. 11 x 38 = 418. I was thinking it could be at the 19' mark. But what does it look like ? ??? Like all of this, cement work is new to me  at this level. d* Just looking for something that will pass code.
Thanks ,Randy

Talked to my mason friend about this he thinks if you put a bond beam in the middle and top courses with verticals every 32" you should be ok .he thinks it may be more of an issue with a free standing wall.An outcropping would be like another wall. You could possibly just turn a block towards the inside. You should call your inspector and ask what he wants to see. You will likely be fine with the bond beams and verticals.I think the outcroppings are for a non re-enforced wall.Keep in mind your verticals, corners and bond beams are filled with grout at 11' that foundation is going to be costly.

Thanks, Patrick !
I could not find much on walls at 11 ft. Guess its time to call code and see what they will want. They scare me. LOL

I'm going to use  (if code is ok with it ) dry-stack with Quick-wall . So bond-beam's is no problem. Was also thinking about the cel's that wont have cement and rebar, will be filled with packing foam nut ? Will need to clear that with code also.  d* From what I have read it is sand or gravel most the time.

They dont allow dry stack block in my area so defenitely check on that, If you end up having to mortar the joints its not that bad take you time and you will be pretty good at it after that massive basement. I prefer sand in the non-grouted cores myself.Good luck with the build, Your gonna be tired after that one  :D
