I kind of like being isolated. Our nearest neighbor is a mile away....and they are nice and quiet.  Yesterday was play day and I was just enjoying the quiet.

This is the nearest "Highway" to me. It's about 2 miles. Yesterday, to show how heavy traffic is, I stood in the middle of the road, taking pictures for at least ten minutes, and never saw another car. God Bless the American Country.

These here is God's finest scupturings! And there ain't no laws for the brave ones! And there ain't no asylums for the crazy ones! And there ain't no churches, except for this right here!

Peter, don't you just love the lack of traffic?  We live just off of Route 66, so there is a lot of traffic there, especially on weekends when people are out cruising.  But, on the road that our house faces (our property actually backs all the way to Rt. 66) the kids could sit in the middle and build sandcastles all day and never see a car other than the mail carrier.  Not that I let them, of course, but I don't worry about them getting hit or kidnapped if I send them to the mailbox, either.

It is wonderful HT! No noise, no people just peace and quiet.

I live in an apartment complext right next to the road. I hear traffic driveby all night. They are about 15 yards away. Also, I hear people driving in with their music going, I don't like it.

I went to San Francisco this weekend and it is very busy over there. I couldn't believe it. Everything is sooo expensive. You pay more for a low quality.  I don't mind the noise so much anymore.

Sonoran, when I first left home and moved to college, my room had windows facing the university baseball field.  The AC units on the top of the building there would kick off and on and make all sorts of racket.  The fire dept and the police station were just a few blocks away, and it seemed like every night there were sirens going from one or the other.  The garbage truck made its rounds at 4 AM and then there were deliveries made to the cafeteria that was directly below my window.  The building had no AC, so you had to have the window open to breathe in there, but for the first two weeks I hardly slept at all.  It was not so much all the new noises as the fact that I never heard a dog bark, a cricket or a frog, or a coyote or owl.  It wasn't until then that I realized I was so used to listening to those things, it was really hard to fall asleep without them.

I miss all of those sounds also. I really like listening to frogs, crickets, and birds.

One thing I forgot to mention is we get a wake up call every tuesday. The groundskeepers are running weedeaters, leaf blowers, and mowers outside our window.
