what to do with all the info here?

i have ran across so many posts that apply and have great info in them

at first, i tried saving them all to my favorites, but there are just too many

i'd like to make use of some sort of folder in my computer to save some of the great info
i find here, but i'm not sure how i would go about doing that

how do you save info from this site?

at first i thought, "oh, i'll remember that post explains foundations" (or whatever)
but then, when i'm trying to refer back to it, i can't find it/remember where it is

If you use Firefox (and probably most other browsers), you can download the Google Notebook app from Google. You'd then just right click on a page to save it in your "virtual" folder. Love it, and I use it all the time for all kinds of stuff. I wish it was around when I was getting my book together.

I save web page information as e-mail messages to DOCUMENTS files.

for example:
DOCUMENTS\FLOOR PLANS
DOCUMENTS\FRAMING\ROOFS
DOCUMENTS\PLUMBING
DOCUMENTS\EARTH SHELTERED
DOCUMENTS\DOORS AND WINDOWS
DOCUMENTS\SIPS
DOCUMENTS\INSULATION

HIGHLIGHT the item you want to save by holding the "left mouse button, down" and "dragging" down the page, until you get to the end of the item.
Click  "COPY" under EDIT... OR "CTRL C" to copy the HIGHLIGHTED section of the page.
Create a  new e-mail and "PASTE" the highlighted text into the blank e-mail.
Put the name of the item in the "Subject" line of the e-mail.
Click "SAVE AS" under the "FILE" menu (at the top of the page) and save to a DOCUMENT file.   for example: "SAVE  AS" DOCUMENTS\FRAMING\ROOFS.
If the e-mail has NO pictures, save as a TEXT message to the DOCUMENTS folder.
If the e-mail has pictures, save as an E-MAIL message to the DOCUMENTS folder.

I have saved thousands of pages of information, using this method.

Two great ideas!!

Both good techniques for organization that I had not heard of.

Also, when searching for a forum topic use the bulleted SEARCH link in the blue header box. It seems to work better than the search tab inside the forum software itself.

You forgot to add the Google Browser - Chrome - so they could totally record everything you do in your life.  They have your searches for the last many years.

tesa, I like Evernote  - it was recommended by daddymem.

It will save everything you highlight or the entire page and is always ready or if it is not on it will be available at a right click -(add to evernote)-  of the mouse then load and you reclick your selection and it will save it.  Seems it has loaded and saved also but not always.  Once it is running it is always one click.

It notifies you it added in the lower right corner - you can print out selections - search the entire unending roll of notes - save receipt copies - search text in pictures - tons more.

Could you give me some hints for how you are using google docs to organize web gleaned information. I am not able to find the right click page copy feature you mentioned. Is there an additional step there with something like Snagit?

You've got to download the Google Notebook app, install it, the it should work fine. I'm assuming you'd have to have a gmail account for this to work.

Sketchup is well worth learning. It allows you to move around the model better and is more accurate than any low cost program I've used. I've also been emailing a model back and forth with a client, they can't draw much but can rotate and move around which gives them a better idea than trying to visualize from static views.

Sketchup is also great for working out dimensions and angles, such as stairs. It's easy to make changes and instantly see how all the angles are effected..
