Stimulus bill 1071 pages long!

HURRY, FELLAS, LET'S VOTE, I AM OFF TO ROME!
Fri Feb 13 2009 09:18:52 ET

Rep. John Culberson, TX claims the "stimulus" bill must be urgently voted on today -- because Speaker Nancy Pelosi is leaving at 6:00 PM for an 8 day trip to Europe!

Culberson made the charge on Houston's KSEV radio.

Pelosi is hoping to lead a delegation to Europe; there's a meeting with the Pope and an award from an Italian legislative group.

Calls to Pelosi's spokesman went unreturned.

In the rushing, Democrats have now broken their promise to have the public see the $790 billion bill for 48 hours before any vote.

Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.) predicted that none of his Senate colleagues would 'have the chance' to read the entire final version of the 1,071-page bill before it comes up for a final vote.

Ah crap, Sassy. I thought you were off on a cool vacation!   ;D ;D
Just because something has been done and has not failed, doesn't mean it is good design.

Well, actually I am planning on one - a road trip with a friend in May.  We're going to Utah, Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas, Connecticut & hopefully see Washington DC (not the politicians, unless I can yell at them) I want to see the buildings...  and more of the New England states.  (we'll fly back)

Can't get Glenn to go anywhere except for a hole in the ground or recently when we went to Paso Robles to drill holes in 2" steel out in the wind, rain & cold muddy empty lot  d*

So Flutterby, Whitlock's wife & I decided we would check out the country while we're still able to do it, visit some relatives, maybe stop by some CountryPlans members, if we get the time...  we have to cram in a lot of stuff in 3 wks!

Maybe I'll get some of that stimulus $$$$ to pay for my trip  [waiting]

Bill needs to be "urgently" voted on!  d* d* d* What's $790 billion bucks.  ???

Hey Sassy...your trip is going to be a blast! You'd be surprised how much you can see in three weeks. A few years back I drove from the east coast to the west I80 stopping along the way. Drove down Calf coast and I40
and back up to New England. I like to travel alone so I did all the driving. I stopped and visited friends and saw A LOT of our beautiful country. I did this all in three weeks. I got home just in time to return to work on Monday.  ::)

Glenn..your post under Humor regarding Nancy was a riot!

Dog, that's good to know...  I was checking out the trains, also - would that be a good idea?  You can get a 15 day pass...  then someone else said - "you might as well rent an RV" or rent a car - decisions, decisions, decisions...  I'm trying to look at what's the most cost-effective, see the most country & people & have fun along the way plan  d*  We'll fly back (have lots of free miles I gotta use)  so that will give us more time.  If anyone has any ideas or suggestions  ???

With trains you are trapped in a seat going where they want to take you -- like a CRUISE, remember? hmm  [waiting]

Right - the birth lake.... I have heard it was good but haven't been there.  I also put handrails in the new Superior courthouse there.  The place is getting too crowded and a shakey city at that.

I suggest you dip a little bit further south and come through OK, too.   ;D  Hopefully by then we'd be somewhat settled on our new place.

Thanks for the offer, HG - we're still figuring out the logistics.  Glenn told me that we should take my SUV & then we could just sleep in the back of it  ::) [slap] [waiting]  Yeah, right!  We'd have a bunch of luggage & need to take showers...

Hi Sassy,

I agree with Glenn with the trains. You want to be free to travel at your own pace. So much nicer that way. The SUV idea is also great, but might be rough for 2 people to sleep in though. Not impossible. Since I traveled alone I did sleep in my car and even washed up in some lakes and rest stops. I stayed at cheap lodging when in need of a bed and real shower. Places with washing machines and dryers available. Kept a cooler with ice for water, Red Bull, fruits and veggies. Bread and peanut butter go far.

If you guys can swing an RV that would be really nice. That way you can cook and it would be more comfortable. Some of the cheap lodging is nice. I found a Motel 8 in Wyoming for $19 bucks. Nice clean safe room with W/D nearby. Even allowed pets! Some places east of Texas on my way home were pretty shady and run down. Maybe things have changed. Always ask to see the room first! Some B & B's are nice and reasonably priced. Ask about discounts and get AAA. If I had the option I'd go with small RV. You can take turns driving and one can sleep if you're doing a long stretch. You can camp out on nice days and drive during the crummy one's.

I'm so happy for you! I did my trip in May a little over 10 years ago. It's a great month to be traveling. Past the snow and it's not too hot. It was a wonderful adventure  ::)

I drove a sick friend home from Boston to San Diego a couple of years ago. Me and his wife took turns driving and made the trip in just over 50 hours. I drove home by myself. I was in your neck of the woods at one point. Beautiful area.
