I am wondering how does the federal and state government collect their fuel tax? If you are hooking up at home how and you're not paying for gasoline with all those taxes included, how does the government collect? I can't help think that a new level of intrusion will be instituted.

Which then makes me think, maybe that is why they have not tried as hard or really have made the car industry change. They shoot them slef in the foot on how to collect taxes.

Virginia and several other states have considered a mileage charge/

Thankfully the hang the bastards, opinion won out here.
These here is God's finest scupturings! And there ain't no laws for the brave ones! And there ain't no asylums for the crazy ones! And there ain't no churches, except for this right here!

I guess you saw where they (government) went after a man who was collecting used cooking oil and making car fuel?  They charged him taxes on estimated mileage and a fine for not reporting road taxes or something like that. You have to licensed, do paperwork and pay fees to be legal
So I'm sure there will be a new tax for electric cars. Still think about building myself one.

Soon I will open my electric bill and have a highway tax on it. Probaly even if you don't own an electric car.  There are enough little taxes on there already and strange charges. I get a delivery charge on my power bill. I want to see a guy with a bucketful of lightening bolts inserting them into my meter box. Same with the phone bill. It would be pretty reasonable without all the add-on's. I think we will see Qwest go down in this part of the country. It is a pretty weak company.
I have done so much with so little for so long that today I can do almost anything with absolutely nothing.

I am very upset about the highway tax. And any tax the is road related. They have diverted these taxes into other "programs" not even road related. They need to fix a bridge in our state and plan tolls now on the two main bridges that go into Seattle. Bad enough they just started to charge single passenger vehicles to use the HOV lane.

I hate our government, they suck.

wow they let single passenger vehicles into the HOV?

whatever they can think of for a few extra bucks I guess
Yup for a fee. You have to have this electronic bar code on your dash board and the fee is posted based upon the flow of traffic. ranges from 50 cents to I think about 10.00. Highest I have seen so far is 3.75.
