Looks like we have some rain and good winds coming.  I'm leaving work in a few minutes to head to Muldoon to board up the windows and try to get the ground anchors installed.  According to wind projections, 40-80 mile per hour wind is expected and that barn is in no shape for it yet.  The green hurricane with the 8pm Tuesday is essentially where I am located.

I'm hoping for the best.  Will post pics back when I can.

thanks, I'm just fine.

Went out on Monday to get the anchors installed.  The 3 feet spiral ended things with braided steel cable and turnbuckles to provide some uplift protection.  The ground is essentially concrete after 4 inches in.  It's the clay, and lack of rain for the last 3 months.  I got one in about 75% and bent the section of steel pipe I was using as a leverage bar.  So much for that...  I did get some boards up on windows, and did ratchet strap the barbq pit and picnic table to trees.   I wound up re-stacking firewood along the side of the cabin to make a wind break so at least it wouldn't whip under it.

Turns out the storm was a near non-event.  The media frenzy on local news was darn near everyone run for their lives.  The reality was some rain.  I got to watch my rain barrels overflow for the first time.  That was the highlight.  Was a good learning experience tho, as I never worried about anything but my house before.  From now on I'll try to leave things a little more shipshape in the future.  I'm hoping to get the anchors in this weekend now that the ground is soft and some skirting in place later this year.

Since I'll be in the country this weekend, and then I'll be in Calgary all next week for work, I'm kinda busy around the house for now.

Thanks again for the kind words.

T posts cut in half so the cut forms a point on both halfs make good anchors for hard ground. You can usually knock the T part off with a hammer. Drill a hole in the end to attach your chain/cable whatever to. Drive them in with a sledge hammer at an angle so they go down under the structure a bit. Kinda the same idea they use for a circus tent setup.

I checked the storm - looks like it tamed down after hitting land, but you never know and like our fire - there is only so long before it is too late -- and I thought I missed that point -- it is a rotten hands tied should have done more feeling, but when I made myself a second chance - it was 3 days work in one day and things got done - but I was dragging --- but felt much better about it after I did all I could, - except think of more things I could do for others - neighbors etc after caught up.

Glad to hear everything is OK Muldoon. I hope you get the time to do the things you see need doing before the next threat blows in.
I have done so much with so little for so long that today I can do almost anything with absolutely nothing.
