Today, I rode my bicycle.

Big deal you say, and I agree...but let me back up some.

For the last two months, I haven't been able to walk more than 30 yards without puffing like a steam engine. My heart would be pounding....you know the routine.

I do have a heart condition, actually, a couple. I do have asthma and I do have a problem with my blood sugar. Nothing like the last couple months though.

Yesterday, we went to the farm. I have no intention of going west anywhere except where I want to be so I ignore the problem as best I can. I got a fair amount of work done and then Zeus and I went for a walk. About two miles. When I got back, I was almost crawling. I have been taking Zertek but forgot them. They only help a little these days though.

I had an inhaler in the camper and used it. It helped a little.

Then I remembered cinnamon as an old breathing remedy. I didn;t have any in the camper but found a bag of Atomic Fireballs. (Loaded with cinnamon)

I stuck three in my mouth and despite the warm feeling ;D My breathing started to get better, and better and better.

This morning I felt pretty good so I tried one and darned if I didn't feel great. My lungs are clear, I don't feel like I have a belt around my chest, Blood pressure is down (not great, but down). I went for a bike ride and Zeus and I are going for a walk in a few minutes.

Who'd of thought it! c*

Homegrown Tomatoes

;D  That's an unlikely remedy, but my great-grandpa used to swear by peppermint candy, and he lived to be nearly 100, so must be something to it.

The best thing I ever did for myself was go to an allergist and have a test. Now I am allergic to about 40 different things. The earth as whole it seems like (just about every tree and every grass) I had 4 years of allergy shots. After the 1st year I never needed my inhaler and I take zyrtech when I get hives only now and my singular as needed (which is very rarely). I only mention this because I had childhood asthma and spent probably 4 years on steroids. I honestly believe my asthma was just really a symptom of the real issue allergies. I like to encourage those with asthma to be tested for allergies.

hi peternap,
i'm sorry to hear about your medical conditions. i guess when i talk to people on the forums i just assume everyone is peachy and i am the only one that is starting to feel my age(61.5). hope you keep plenty of that candy around and you can kick some of those medical conditions out the door. i need you to stay healthy so you can send me more reports on "alien visitation" ;).

unless we recognize who's really in charge, things aren't going to get better.

Dan - check out the e-mail I got from my cousin regarding that.  He was serious - to a point.

Glad the cinnamon worked for you - it's supposed to help lower blood sugar, also - take care of yourself.  My brother ended up in the hospital with a bad infection last week (he had quadruple bypass a month ago).  They thought they were going to have to open him up again - but the infection hadn't gotten into his blood or heart - several days of intravenous antibiotics & he went home this past Tuesday.  I went to see him the other day while he was in hospital.  Poor guy, it's one thing after another...  he'll be 62 in October... has never smoked, always exercised, eats healthy, not overweight, cholesterol in the 140's, not diabetic - none of the problems you would associate with heart problems...

I've been feeling much better the past couple months - I was at a point where I was having problems walking, climbing stairs, couldn't sleep at night, by the end of a shift in ER, I was hurting so bad (from arthritis) I could barely stand it - couldn't sit, stand, lie down for very long without changing positions - I am so thankful that I'm hardly feeling any pain right now...   [cool]
