I disagree with this proposal. Many major cities offer reduced bus passes.
Many cities also offer taxi vouchers for those who need to get to a Dr's appointment.

Got to keep the huddled masses huddled and not rioting in the streets. Guess it's easier to give away gas than to make gas cheaper.

I'm a frikken vulnerable Amerikan.  I pay more like a $1000 a month more for fuel -- not a year.  How vulnerable is that.  I'm nearly gonna weep.  Toss me a hankie.   :(

Now they want me to subsidize gas so the welfare recipients can get to the post office to pick up their welfare checks hmm

Don't get me wrong -- I have nothing against someone who is in genuine need.

Maybe I should subsidize John McCain when he goes to cash his broken SS check as his wife won't share her millions with him. [crz]

Freebies for deadbeats has always been a major plank in the Democratic Parties platform for as long as I can remember.  If Obama gets into office and has his way we will be overwhelmed by this type of politics I do believe. The process doesn't define need well enough and like most systems it can be manipulated. It has always been a tough question because it involves an emotional decision rather than a business decision.
I have done so much with so little for so long that today I can do almost anything with absolutely nothing.

Freebies for deadbeats or freebies for billionaires. Pick one.
