the government "has a legitimate interest in countering the rise of parallel societies that are based on religion...."

Wow.  There is a reason our kids are homeschooled...and our country is SO close to this same scenario it is scary.  I would hope the majority of our country would disagree with the whole philosophy behind statism, socialism, communism, etc, yet no one thinks of what the root of these movements and laws are or how it'll really effect things in the end.  Do people really think they are too ignorant to think and decide for themselves?  Even if they did, would you really think the government should be the entity to decide what is best for you?  Dang.

I don't think the US is far behind.... the government is always looking for ways to control more and more.  In WI, we were denied access to the public school for our exchange student because we homeschool our own children and we might interfere with the "socialization" of our exchange student.  Didn't matter that we paid taxes into that doggone school district or that our family is quite social.  I got t-shirts for my girls at the homeschool conference a few weeks ago that read:  Warning:  Unsocialized Homeschooler. Interact at your own risk!

My husband saw it and HAD to get it for the girls, especially our oldest who doesn't know the meaning of the word 'stranger'.  To her, everyone is a friend or a cousin, and any distinction between the two is purely arbitrary.  This is the kid who goes into the store with me to buy a tube of toothpaste and we're in there for 45 minutes because she is going around and shaking hands and introducing herself and asking people's names and ages, etc.  Our younger one is slightly more cautious, but that doesn't stop them from telling strangers that crane flies don't bite or that wooly bears turn into a specific type of moth or whatever.

Hitler tactics.....

Hitler had children telling on their parents. This is the same type of state control on the youth.
Seems like some things in Germany will never change.
