I'd hate to guess Glenn. I saw him on Saturday. He stood up to get a better look and he stood taller than I am....He's a BIG bear.

Without any thing nearby to judge it with I would say IMO that it is between 350-375#.  Been interesting Peter if you could have measured the print.  We had one near the house that a baseball cap(bill included) would just barely cover. Estimated it to be in the neighborhood of 400+#

The print is 10 3/4 inches John. 1/4" bigger than the one a couple weeks ago. I made a plaster cast of this one too.

I think Peter's in VA.

We also have quite a few over here in Yosemite area-- just a couple hundred miles North of you.

Hi Maggie. I'm in Va. I shouldn't give the impression that I just run into bears. Seeing one like on Saturday, is rare. I have to sit on  stand for a lot of hours to see one, as in hunting. They are very careful about not having human contact.

I have feed sites for deer. The bears get into these sites and get their pictures taken by game cameras. They can become a pest about the sites but they also get into bird feeders and compost piles. They are like coons, just bigger and eat more. This year, I have more than usual and I'm not seeing as many deer. The deer are here, they just stay away from the feed sites because the bears camp out there.
