Wherever DH and I move, we're going to have to rent for a while until this house sells...I tried looking up rentals on realtor.com, which claims it can find you rental houses, too, and the only specifications I put on it were that it had two bedrooms and at least one bath, and it pulled up the search that said, "There are 10,989 rental properties in the area you have selected; there are "0" matches for your request."  Then it suggested I choose fewer beds and baths.  ???  And that my price range should be less restrictive (I didn't set a min or max price range, either...)  So... any suggestions for finding a kid and dog friendly rental house in a town 800-900 miles away?  I'm a little frustrated with the search online.  Of course, I could always call my mom and have her scour the classifieds... that's her type of thing.  That would work for the OKC area, but still at a loss for the Wichita area.

Possibly find a paper in the area with online classifieds?

Guess that's an idea...  whew... I could use a nap.   All this house hunting nonsense is tiring. :)

Kids were so hyped up last night that they couldn't sleep.

What town or area or you looking to rent?  I will give it a try and see what sites I can find to help.

In general, the Oklahoma City area....  and the Wichita, KS area, but we're leaning toward the job in Oklahoma.

HT, here are some sites that I found that may help you in your search. I found some others  but they did not look to hot to me.

http://www.okcchamber.com/    Oklahoma City chamber of commerce has  info on the city and relocation data/info.

http://okc.about.com/od/apartmentsandrealestate/a/okchomemarket.htm   Has some good info on realtors in the area and other sties that should help in your search.

http://www.apartmentratings.com/rate/OK.html  rates apartments and links to finding rentals.

http://members.okcchamber.com/sbaweb/members/members.asp?&id=1&wpid=-101&kwaction=1&kwwhere=[KW]apartments&newsession=TRUE&sid=786882525   Site with links to many rentals and realtors.

http://www.apartments.com/Community.aspx?state=ok&partner=overtur&moreinfo=0&rgn2=74&page=subarea&prvpg=3&type_listing=1&helicon=0&Area2=Y

Search by area around and in O. City.

Let me know if you need some more.

Thanks a lot, Mark.  A lot of these look more promising than the stuff that the relocation service sent me.  I also have a few connections around locally and can ask them to check out a few things for me.  Appreciate you taking the time to look up stuff for me.

Glad I was able to help. Good luck on your move. When you find a place find a place just let me know I will bring the one wheel trailer to load up your stuff to help you move. Opps just remmebered, got to see a man about a dog that day, sorry.   (Ha!)

You might be able to find the local paper and look in the classifieds.

  Go to www.newslink.org

Then click on newspapers by state then look through the list of newspapers online for the state you want to rent in and when you find the closest newspaper to your town click on that newspapers classifieds section or real estate section.

GOOD LUCK

PS some papers are listed under daily newspapers and others are weekly etc.  Little towns often have a weekly paper but when they are online the classifieds are almost always accessible.

Well, last night using a combination of methods here and some other suggestions from the relocation service (which thankfully worked better than their first suggestion!) I found some possibilities that are close to where DH will be working.  One is the funniest looking house I've ever seen, but it looks like it would be a possibility because of the fenced yard, and it's not brand new, so they might agree to let us have our dogs  and bird there.  DH is sending them a couple of questions on the offer today (a few items mysteriously disappeared from one offer letter to the next...) and most likely by tomorrow we will have a definite plan to be moving to Oklahoma.  The funny looking house looks exactly like a man with a surprised expression and a flat straw hat... they built a second story addition over the garage (the rest of the house is single story) and there are two windows on the top floor and one on the bottom, right in the middle.  The roof over the garage addition looks like one of those flat straw hats.... kinda comical, but it has a neat built-in fort and playground equipment in the back yard, which my kids would love.  Since we know it is temporary, I wouldn't mind living in the city, and it is also really close to where my sister lives.   So, today I start calling people and asking more questions.  :)  I hate the process of moving, but I like the end result.  My mom called me yesterday to rub it in that while I was exulting in 40-degree temperatures, it was nearly 70 there.  Today would be a good day to move!~
